Lymm Runners, a village running club, recently made a heartwarming gesture by donating a bench in memory of their ‘friends who left us too soon’. The bench was inaugurated on a Sunday morning before the club’s regular run, with a touching speech from chairman Chris Pickford and a group photo to commemorate the occasion.
Located outside the library, the newly donated bench sits alongside two other benches from Lymm WI and Lymm Ladies combined with the Round Table. Mr. Pickford expressed the significance of the bench’s placement, mentioning that it was where Lymm Runners was originally formed 15 years ago. The club still gathers at the library for their runs, providing members and villagers with the opportunity to appreciate the bench regularly.
Established in 2010, Lymm Runners boasts a membership of over 450 individuals and is the sole running club in the village. They organize runs of various distances throughout the week, including a power walking group session on Thursdays at 7pm starting from Lymm Leisure Centre. Additionally, the club meets on Sundays at 8.30am outside Lymm Library and on Wednesdays at 9.15am for a coffee run from the library.
Furthermore, Lymm Runners offer Tuesday sessions where members can choose between a four-mile social whistle run starting from the leisure centre at 7pm or a track training session at locations like Victoria Park in Warrington during winter and Lymm High School playing fields in summer. Those interested in learning more about the club and their activities can visit their website for additional information.
The memorial bench donation serves as a touching tribute to the cherished individuals who have passed away, allowing their memory to live on within the community. It not only provides a place for reflection and remembrance but also symbolizes the strong bond shared by members of Lymm Runners. The bench stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of friendship and camaraderie that defines the running club, embodying the values of unity and support that they hold dear.
