Plans to transform the empty Dawsons Music building in Warrington into apartments and bedsits have been pulled back. The initial proposal, which was presented to the Warrington Borough Council in April, detailed the changes needed within the building on Sankey Street to accommodate nine new homes.
Previously, an application for 10 apartments and bedsits was rejected by the council. The reason behind the refusal was that converting a class E premises into apartments did not align with permitted development regulations. The council specifically noted concerns about the natural light levels in certain rooms.
After feedback from the council, the plan was revised, and a revised floorplan was submitted in April. The updated proposal included three bedsits and six apartments within the building. Despite efforts to address concerns such as noise impact and sound insulation, the plans were officially withdrawn by the applicant on Wednesday.
The Dawsons Music building, which has been empty since 2019, must obtain approval from the Warrington Borough Council to change its purpose to residential use. The decision to withdraw the plans indicates that further adjustments or a new approach may be necessary to move forward with the conversion project. The future of the building and its potential transformation into living spaces remain uncertain at this time.
