Anwyl Homes, a housebuilder, has acquired a 12.6-acre parcel of land at Omega in Warrington, which was previously part of the RAF Burtonwood airbase. The airbase site was demolished after closing in 1991 and has since undergone significant redevelopment, including housing and warehousing.

The land secured by Anwyl already has outline planning permission, and a reserved matters application will be submitted to Warrington Borough Council for the construction of 153 new homes. These homes will be located off Burtonwood Road and Fortress Boulevard.

John Grime, the managing director of Anwyl Homes Lancashire, expressed excitement about being part of the vibrant new neighborhood in west Warrington. He mentioned that the Omega development has been popular among families and commuters due to its easy access to motorways and transport services. Anwyl Homes plans to build 115 private sale properties and 38 affordable homes to meet local housing needs.

The Omega development has seen more than £70 million of infrastructure completed since construction began in 2012. Additionally, approximately seven million square feet of logistics and manufacturing space have been developed. Various housebuilders have purchased six parcels of land for residential use, collectively planning to deliver around 1,150 homes.

Anwyl Homes aims to offer a variety of family homes, including three, four, and five-bedroom designs, as well as two and three-bedroom affordable homes. The affordable homes will consist of starter homes, shared ownership properties, and those available for affordable rent. All homes will feature improved accessibility requirements, electric vehicle charging points, and air or ground source heat pumps for heating and hot water.

In a tribute to the area’s history, the Anwyl development will be known as Eagles Green, inspired by the former RAF Burtonwood airbase motto, ‘ut aquilae volent’ which translates to ‘that eagles may fly’ in Latin. Work on the development is expected to begin in spring 2025, pending reserved matters approval, with the first homes set to be released for sale in the autumn of that year.
