As Halloween approaches, a recent study conducted by confectioners Geraldo’s has identified Warrington as the ‘Halloween treat capital’ of the north west region. By analyzing Google data for 545 keywords related to Halloween treats, the study revealed a significant increase in searches for spooky sweets in certain areas.
Comparing search data from September 2023 to September 2024, Warrington stood out with a remarkable 117.14% increase in Halloween treat searches. Knowsley and Blackpool followed closely behind with rises of 100% and 66.67% respectively. Overall, the UK saw a 7.4% increase in searches for Halloween treats from 2023 to 2024, with England leading the home nations with a 14.77% rise.
Birmingham emerged as the city with the highest number of Halloween treat searches in 2024, showcasing a strong interest in spooky snacks. However, not all areas shared the same enthusiasm for Halloween treats, as some regions experienced a decline in searches. Wigan, Bury, and Chorley in the north west saw significant drops in searches, indicating varying levels of interest in Halloween treats.
On a national level, locations like Hinckley and Bosworth, Wokingham, and Monmouth recorded the lowest number of Halloween treat searches in 2024. Despite this, the overall trend suggests a growing interest in celebrating Halloween with sweet treats across the UK.
Toni Dawson, the owner of Geraldo’s, highlighted the evolving perception of Halloween in the UK, noting that it has become more than just an American import. She emphasized that many people now view Halloween as an opportunity to indulge in sweet treats and enjoy the festive season. The study results reflect a shift towards embracing the fun aspects of Halloween, indicating a growing enthusiasm for spooky snacks and treats.
As Halloween continues to gain popularity in the UK, it is evident that the tradition of indulging in Halloween treats is becoming increasingly prominent. Whether it’s sharing sweets with trick-or-treaters or enjoying snacks while watching spooky movies, Halloween is evolving into a celebration that involves both scares and sweets. With Warrington leading the way as the ‘Halloween treat capital’ of the north west, it is clear that the spirit of Halloween is alive and well in the region.
