In September 2024, a total of 225 babies were welcomed into the world under Warrington and Halton Hospital Teaching Hospitals. This monthly data collection includes information on the number of boys and girls born, sets of twins or triplets, and the method of delivery for each baby.
Out of the 225 new arrivals, there were 110 boys and 115 girls, along with three sets of twins. The lightest baby born weighed only 1lb 7oz (670g), while the heaviest baby tipped the scales at 11lb 3oz (5,080g). The busiest day for births in September was the 17th, with 15 babies making their debut.
In terms of delivery methods, six babies were born in the midwifery-led unit, 35 through elective Caesarean sections, and 60 through unplanned Caesarean sections. Additionally, there were 97 vaginal births, 33 assisted deliveries, and 83 induced births. Five babies were born at home, and there were six water births.
It is heartwarming to know that 70% of the babies were breastfed, and 82% experienced skin-to-skin contact at birth. These statistics highlight the care and support provided to both mothers and babies during the birthing process at Warrington and Halton Hospital Teaching Hospitals.
Families are encouraged to share photographs of their newborns, which will be featured in an online article and a special supplement at the beginning of next year. To be included, parents should submit a color photograph of their baby along with their full name, area of Warrington they are from, date of birth, and weight. It is important to provide all necessary information to ensure inclusion in the publication.
For those expecting babies later in the year, there will be ongoing appeals to submit photographs at the end of each month. This initiative allows families to celebrate the arrival of their little ones and share their joy with the community.
As we reflect on the 225 new arrivals in September 2024, we are reminded of the beauty and wonder of childbirth. Each baby brings hope, joy, and new beginnings to their families, and it is a privilege to witness the miracle of life unfolding at Warrington and Halton Hospital Teaching Hospitals.
