The city’s Pride Quarter has a new LGBTQ+ venue on Stanley Street called The Benidorm Bar, inspired by the popular ITV show. Owned by drag queen Linda Gold, who also runs FunnyBoyz in the Baltic Triangle, the bar offers a safe space for the community.
Opening on October 23rd, the karaoke bar will have drag queen DJs, pool tables, and games for customers to enjoy. One unique feature is the option to purchase a wristband that allows for £1 pints, a concept Linda brought from her time at The Birdcage in Alicante where they charged one euro.
Linda expressed her desire to elevate Liverpool’s Pride Quarter to the level of other LGBTQ+ scenes in cities like Manchester, Blackpool, London, Barcelona, and Berlin. She aims to attract more tourists to the area and create a vibrant and inclusive space for everyone to enjoy.
Having previously launched Benidorm Bingo, a musical game similar to Bongo’s Bingo, Linda decided to expand into her own venue, reflecting on her successful events at various locations in the city. The bar’s walls are adorned with stickers of characters from the ITV sitcom, adding a fun and nostalgic touch for visitors.
With nods to the show scattered throughout the venue, customers can expect to be greeted by familiar faces like Madge Harvey, Joyce Temple-Savage, and Lesley Conroy. The playful and themed decorations create a lively atmosphere for guests to immerse themselves in the world of Benidorm while enjoying a night out.
Overall, The Benidorm Bar offers a unique and exciting addition to Liverpool’s LGBTQ+ scene, with a vision to rival other queer cities and boost tourism in the area. It provides a welcoming space for everyone to come together, have fun, and celebrate diversity in a vibrant and inclusive environment.
