A new TV show is set to premiere tonight on Channel 4, starring the beloved Warrington-born actress Sue Johnston OBE. The show, titled Generation Z, is written and directed by Ben Wheatley and is set in the fictional town of Dambury. The storyline follows a group of pensioners trying to survive the apocalypse after a gas leak caused by an army convoy overturns outside a care home.
Sue Johnston stars in the series as Cecily, alongside Paul Bentall, as they attempt to escape the town and the army while dealing with their newfound hunger for raw flesh. The show also features Anita Dobson as Janine, exploring themes of intergenerational justice and community breakdown.
In addition to the main cast, comedian Johnny Vegas, Chris Reilly, and Rebecca Humphries are also part of the series. Ben Wheatley expressed his excitement about working on Generation Z, calling it a project close to his heart and his first original TV series. The show, consisting of six 60-minute episodes, was filmed in Wales last year and produced by The Forge.
