A Labour Member of Parliament, Mike Amesbury, has stated that he will fully cooperate with any police investigations regarding reports of an alleged assault involving him. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, left Amesbury feeling threatened after a video circulated online showing him confronting a man lying on the road before being pushed away by a bystander.
Cheshire Police confirmed that they received reports of the attack in Frodsham at 2:48 am and mentioned that inquiries are currently underway. In the video shared on social media, Amesbury can be seen pointing his finger at the man on the ground and stating, “You won’t ever threaten me again, will you?” as someone off-camera shouts at him.
Amesbury, aged 55, released a statement saying that he contacted Cheshire Police himself to report the incident that occurred after he felt threatened on the street following a night out with friends. He expressed his commitment to remaining an open and accessible MP for the community and assured that he would cooperate with any inquiries made by the police.
The MP for Runcorn and Helsby had recently attended a meeting with local residents to discuss policing and community safety. This incident follows a stalking case from last year where a man was convicted of stalking Amesbury at his constituency office in Frodsham.
A spokesperson for the Labour Party acknowledged the incident and stated that Amesbury had approached Cheshire Police himself to report the incident and would cooperate with any investigations. Cheshire Police confirmed receiving a call about the assault at 2:48 am on October 26th, reporting that a man had been assaulted on Main Street in Frodsham.
Amesbury’s dedication to his constituents and commitment to transparency in addressing the incident are highlighted in his statement and actions following the alleged assault. As the investigation unfolds, Amesbury’s cooperation with the authorities will be crucial in resolving the matter and upholding accountability.
