Lauren Hagan, a resident of Woolston, has embarked on a heartwarming mission to collect toys and donations for pets in animal shelters. Her inspiration stemmed from the profound bond she shared with her Staffordshire bull terrier, Smokey, who was rescued from a shelter in 2009.
Smokey, despite his traumatic past as a bait dog, exuded love and affection towards everyone he encountered. His unexpected passing prompted Lauren to channel her grief into a project aimed at providing comfort and joy to shelter animals like Smokey.
The Smokey Project was established by Lauren to honor her beloved companion and extend a helping hand to dogs in need of a second chance at happiness. Through toy donations and fundraising efforts for Dogs Trust Merseyside, Lauren is making a positive impact on the lives of shelter animals.
Additionally, Lauren’s volunteer work at the Dogs Trust led her to welcome Leo, a greyhound, into her home. Like Smokey, Leo had his own set of challenges stemming from his racing background. With patience and love, Lauren is helping Leo adjust to his new life and surroundings.
This year, Lauren has set her sights on collecting toys for the RSPCA in Warrington, recognizing the financial struggles faced by the center. By providing toys, blankets, and other comforts to the animals in their care, Lauren hopes to alleviate some of the stress they experience while waiting for their forever homes.
As the holiday season approaches, Lauren emphasizes the importance of supporting animal shelters, especially during times of increased abandonment and relinquishment. By bolstering the supplies and resources available to these shelters, we can ensure that every pet receives the care and attention they deserve.
If you wish to contribute to the Smokey Project, you can purchase toys from the Amazon Wishlist curated by Lauren. All donations will be delivered to the RSPCA in Warrington on December 21, spreading joy and comfort to pets in need. Your support can make a difference in the lives of these deserving animals.
