Controversy at Best One Convenience Store on Liverpool Road
In a surprising turn of events, Best One convenience store located on Liverpool Road in Sankey Bridges has been met with a denial of permission for their click-and-collect lockers by the Warrington Borough Council.
Neighbourhood Dispute
The click-and-collect lockers, operated by InPost, have been a source of contention among neighboring residents due to the noise and disturbance caused by the constant comings and goings at all hours of the day and night. One resident voiced their concerns, stating that the noise from vehicle engines, doors slamming, and loud music has been a constant nuisance, with deliveries even starting as early as 5.30 am.
Environmental Concerns
Not only have residents raised objections to the lockers, but the council’s environmental protection and transport teams have also expressed their disapproval. The environmental protection team cited noise complaints as a major issue, while the transport team highlighted the need for additional parking due to inconsiderate and unsafe parking behaviors.
Council’s Decision
The council ultimately decided to refuse permission for the retention of the click-and-collect lockers at Best One. Planners emphasized that the proposal had an unacceptable impact on the amenity of neighboring residents, with noise levels being a significant concern. Additionally, the proposal was deemed to increase the demand for parking while reducing available spaces on site, potentially leading to dangerous parking practices on the street.
In light of these concerns, the council concluded that the proposal posed a danger to users of the highway network and was not in line with planning policy.
This decision has sparked a debate within the community, with residents, shop owners, and council members expressing varying opinions on the matter. The future of click-and-collect services at Best One remains uncertain as stakeholders navigate this complex issue.
