Thousands of Girlguiding members from Cheshire Forest recently had an unforgettable experience at an exclusive screening of Disney’s latest animated adventure, Moana 2. The event took place on December 11 at the local Odeon cinema, where Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers came together for a day filled with excitement and entertainment.
A Magical Day Out
The 22nd Warrington Brownies, 35th Warrington St Mary’s Brownies and Guides, along with the St Mary’s Ranger Unit, were among the 50,000 Girlguiding members nationwide who attended the special screenings at 99 Odeon cinemas across the UK. The film follows Moana as she embarks on a thrilling journey with Maui and a new crew to explore the vast seas of Oceania, guided by her ancestors’ wisdom.
Enthusiastic Reactions
Rebecca, a 9-year-old Brownie from the 35th Warrington St Mary’s group, shared her excitement about the movie, particularly mentioning her love for the green blobfish character. Gail, the unit leader for the 22nd Warrington Brownies, described the experience as “great fun” with fantastic songs, ensuring that all 50 girls and parents thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Behind the Scenes
Odeon’s sales executive, Kerry Burkes, expressed delight in continuing the partnership with Girlguiding, offering unique and thrilling experiences for girls across the country. The event also featured a special trailer showcasing Brownies Isabella and Emilia interviewing cast members and celebrities at the film’s London premiere. Two lucky Brownies, Luna and Amy, had the opportunity to meet and interview actress Auliʻi Cravalho, who voices Moana, along with composers Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear.
Auli’i conveyed the importance of having strong, brave role models like Moana, highlighting the character’s impact on redefining princesses as heroes. The interview concluded with Auli’i hinting at more to come from Moana’s story, receiving a Motunui-themed badge from the Brownies as a symbol of their shared experience.
The partnership between Girlguiding and Odeon has been ongoing for seven years, providing affordable adventures for girls beyond their regular meetings. These exclusive screenings are just one of the many opportunities for girls aged 4 to 18 to have fun and create lasting memories with their peers and volunteers.
As Moana 2 marks the ninth film to be shown at an exclusive Girlguiding screening, the collaboration continues to foster a sense of community and empowerment among young girls.
