Film crews descended upon Orford over the weekend, taking over the streets and a closed-down pub. This recent influx of Hollywood stars and film crews in various locations around town is all part of the filming for a new project called Anemone.

One of the notable stars spotted in Pickering Crescent in Thelwall was Sean Bean, known for his roles as ex-soldiers, along with Daniel Day-Lewis, a three-time Academy Award winner who came out of retirement for this project, and Samantha Morton.

Road closures were put in place to accommodate the filming activities, with Pickering Crescent, Cotswold Road, and Chiltern Road in Orford all being affected. Local resident Lee Murphy managed to capture some behind-the-scenes moments of the stars and crews in action on Poplars Avenue and Capesthorne Road.

The film crews were seen taking over The Poplars, a former pub in the area, as well as outside the Co-op on Capesthorne Road. This is not the first time Warrington has attracted the attention of filmmakers, as the council has reported receiving multiple filming inquiries each year.

In the past, Walton Hall and Gardens have been a popular filming location, and earlier this year, Orford was transformed for the Sky One comedic drama series Brassic. The presence of these high-profile projects highlights Warrington’s appeal to the film industry and brings a touch of Hollywood glamour to the town.
