The first theft occurred on September 23 at around 12:30 pm on Lord Street in Southport. A woman was followed to her car by three men after withdrawing £8,000 from local banks. Upon reaching her car, one of the men distracted her by knocking on her driver’s side window while another man snatched her coat containing the money from the passenger seat.
The second incident took place on October 11 at around 1 pm on Chapel Lane in Formby. Another woman withdrew £1,850 from a local bank and placed the cash in her handbag. As she returned to her car and placed her handbag on the passenger seat, an unknown male approached her window and distracted her, leading to the theft of her cash.
