Warrington Borough Council’s leader has responded to the announcement that the single bus fare cap in England will be increasing to £3. This new cap, which is higher than the previous limit of £2, will be in place until the end of 2025 and will apply to most bus journeys in England.
During a recent full council meeting in Warrington, Council leader Cllr Hans Mundry, Labour, addressed questions about the impact of this fare increase on young people under 21 who use the bus service. He mentioned that Warrington has already taken steps to provide additional support for young people by offering £1 fares through the bus service improvement funding.
Cllr Mundry emphasized the need to assess the Budget situation and explore options to support the residents of Warrington in light of the new fare cap. He stated that the council will “see what we can do” to assist the people in the town.
In response to the concerns raised about the fare increase, the council is committed to evaluating the situation and finding ways to mitigate the impact on residents. This may involve exploring alternative funding sources or negotiating with transportation providers to ensure that bus services remain accessible and affordable for the community.
Furthermore, the council is also looking into potential initiatives to improve public transportation options in Warrington, such as expanding routes, increasing frequency, or introducing new technologies to enhance the overall bus service experience for passengers.
Overall, the council’s focus is on addressing the challenges posed by the fare increase and finding innovative solutions to support the transportation needs of the community. By working collaboratively with stakeholders and exploring creative strategies, the council aims to ensure that residents can continue to rely on an efficient and affordable bus service in Warrington.
