Liverpool Schools Set New Standards for Academic Excellence

Liverpool is a city known for its rich history, vibrant culture, and world-class educational institutions. In recent years, two sixth forms in Liverpool have been making waves in the education sector, achieving outstanding academic success and setting new standards for excellence.

Liverpool Life Sciences UTC and the Studio School, both located in the bustling Baltic Triangle, have once again proven their commitment to providing students with exceptional educational experiences that prepare them for success in their academic pursuits and future careers. This year, following the release of exceptional A-Level and BTEC results, students at these schools have achieved remarkable grades, securing places at prestigious universities and landing coveted degree apprenticeships with innovative blue-chip companies.

A Collaborative Approach to Education

One of the unique aspects of Liverpool Life Sciences UTC and the Studio School is their shared building, which allows students to create bespoke pathways for their studies. This collaborative approach to education has proven to be highly successful, with students benefiting from a diverse range of academic offerings and extracurricular opportunities.

At Liverpool Life Sciences UTC, students have excelled across a range of subjects, with impressive results in BTEC Applied Sciences, engineering, additional languages, social sciences, and physics. Principal Jill Davies expressed her pride in the students’ achievements, highlighting the school’s focus on degree apprenticeships and specialization in key areas of study. This year, 28% of UTC students received straight As or a Triple Distinction*, a testament to their hard work and dedication.

One standout student at Liverpool Life Sciences UTC is Selma El Benni, who won the Business of Science Innovation Award and is now heading to the University of Paris to study dentistry. Selma’s exceptional work, including an award-winning EPQ project, has paved the way for a successful career in dentistry. Other students, such as Sian Johnson, are pursuing degree apprenticeships with companies like United Utilities, showcasing the diverse pathways available to students at the school.

Exploring Different Pathways to Success

Holly Jones, a student at Liverpool Life Sciences UTC, discovered her passion for chemistry through the school’s MeDeVet programme, which focuses on medicine, dentistry, and veterinary sciences. Despite initially pursuing a career in medicine, Holly found that chemistry resonated more deeply with her skills and aspirations, leading her to secure a place at Oxford University. Principal Jill Davies commended Holly’s journey as an example of the school’s commitment to exploration and growth, emphasizing the importance of finding the right fit for one’s academic and career goals.

Meanwhile, students at the Studio School have also achieved remarkable success in creative and technological fields, with 100% A*–C grades in fine art and film, as well as 100% D*D*D* in the IT diploma. Seth Leighton, Jamie Carter, and Teo Forshaw are just a few of the students who have secured degree apprenticeships and university offers, demonstrating their outstanding achievements in IT, graphics, mathematics, and engineering. Employers have praised the Studio School for its focus on employer-driven project-based learning, which has enabled students to secure sought-after employment opportunities and apprenticeships with leading companies.
