Traffic on the M6 is heavily backed up this evening following a crash between junction 19 (Knutsford) and junction 18 (Middlewich). The National Highways reported delays of nearly an hour and congestion stretching almost six miles due to the accident. Although the lanes that were closed earlier have since been reopened, significant delays are still being experienced on the motorway.
The latest update from the travel news service Inrix states, “Long delays and queueing traffic due to earlier accident on M6 Southbound from J19 (Knutsford) to J18 (Middlewich / Holmes Chapel).” Lanes three and four, out of the total of four, were initially closed but have since been reopened. Even with the lanes back in operation, delays persist.

However, the aftermath of the collision has led to congestion extending back towards the M56, resulting in around 50-minute delays for motorists approaching the area.
