Over 9,000 Warrington residents have signed a petition asking for a new General Election. The petition has been gaining support nationally and has over 2.6 million signatures overall.
In Warrington North, 4,435 people have signed the petition, which is about 4.6% of constituents. In Warrington South, 4,889 residents have signed, making up 4.8% of the electorate. In Tatton, which includes Lymm, 5,700 people have signed, representing 5.8% of constituents.
The Government must respond to petitions with over 10,000 signatures and Parliament considers those with over 100,000 for a debate. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has ruled out calling another General Election, stating that his focus is on making tough but fair decisions every day.
Sir Keir acknowledged the challenges of being Prime Minister but expressed that he prefers being in power to make changes rather than being in opposition. The petition for a new election will remain open for signatures until May 2025.
