Royal Mail in Warrington is gearing up for the busy Christmas season by hiring over 2,000 temporary workers. The company is on a mission to recruit a total of 16,000 temporary employees to assist during the festive period.
The temporary positions will be spread across two parcel hubs, five seasonal parcel sort centres, and 37 mail centres nationwide. There will be a variety of shifts available to cater to different schedules. In addition to these roles, delivery and collection jobs will also be available in delivery offices throughout the country.
The parcel hubs in Warrington and Daventry are expected to process a whopping 1.7 million parcels per day, which is why they are looking to hire more than 2,000 additional staff. To accommodate the increased workload, extra temporary space equivalent to 20 football pitches has been created in the seasonal parcel sort centres located in Atherstone, Milton Keynes, Northampton, Daventry, and Greenford in London.
The temporary recruits will play a crucial role in sorting the growing number of online shopping orders before they are distributed to Royal Mail’s 1,200 delivery offices. Contracts for these temporary positions will run from late October to early January, covering major shopping events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Parcelforce Worldwide is also joining in on the hiring spree by recruiting additional drivers and indoor workers. To support the influx of orders, Royal Mail is adding almost 4,000 new vans, trucks, and trailers to its fleet in preparation for the holiday season.
