Today, a high school in Warrington, Sir Thomas Boteler CE High School, came together for its annual Remembrance Day service. The service, led by the school’s chaplain Mike Wildsmith, was a powerful and moving event attended by former pupils and current students.

One of the highlights of the service was a performance by Alex Jones, a year 10 student, who sang Birdy’s “Not About Angels” while wearing the school’s poppy dress. This dress, adorned with over 900 individual poppies, symbolized unity and honor in remembrance of those who have served and sacrificed.

Current pupils who are part of the cadets proudly wore their uniforms, adding to the solemn atmosphere of the service. The stage was beautifully decorated with poppies, each containing words of thanks written by every student in the school.

Head teacher Beverly Scott-Henderson expressed the significance of the Remembrance Day service, emphasizing the importance of young people understanding the impact of war and conflicts on society. She highlighted the value of reflection and remembrance, instilling in students the importance of acknowledging sacrifices and learning from the past.

The service was a testament to the school’s Christian values of hope, compassion, and endurance, with a strong sense of respect permeating throughout the event and the school as a whole. Coming together to remember and reflect on Remembrance Day was a powerful experience for the Boteler Family, showcasing the unity and honor that defines the school community.
