A trapped casualty was rescued by firefighters after a rush hour crash on the M62 near junction nine for the A49, Newton Road. Fire engines from Birchwood and Lymm responded to the call at 5.25pm on Thursday, October 17. The firefighters worked for about an hour to extract the casualty, with medics from Northwest Ambulance Service closely monitoring the situation.
The rescue operation was completed by 6.20pm, and the casualty was handed over to the ambulance service. Throughout the rescue, one lane remained open to traffic to minimize disruptions. After the incident, fire crews ensured the area was safe before Cheshire Police took over.
According to a spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, the collision involved two vehicles, with one casualty trapped inside. Lanes one and two of the motorway were closed, but traffic was allowed to pass through slowly in lane one. Once the casualty was safely removed from the vehicle, the crews secured the scene before leaving it in the hands of the police.
The crash led to significant traffic delays, with National Highways reporting six miles of backed-up traffic. Travelers experienced up to 45 minutes of extra travel time in the area. A spokesman from National Highways North West advised motorists to plan for additional travel time due to the lane closures on the M62 westbound.
As of now, there is no update on the condition of the casualty from Cheshire Police. The authorities are working to manage the traffic flow and ensure the safety of all commuters in the area. It is essential for drivers to stay informed about the situation and follow any instructions given by the emergency services to navigate through the affected area safely.
