The brutal murder of 16-year-old Brianna Ghey in Warrington has been selected to be featured in the upcoming series of Crimes That Shook Britain. A+E Networks EMEA has greenlit a ninth season of the popular TV show, produced by Title Role Productions, which will premiere on Crime+Investigation next week.

The series, hosted by Dermot Murnaghan, delves into the harrowing details of crimes that have left a lasting impact on the nation. Through interviews with friends, family, and law enforcement officials involved in the cases, viewers will gain insight into the tragic events that have shocked communities across Britain.

Brianna Ghey’s life was tragically cut short when she was brutally stabbed with a hunting knife 28 times in Culcheth Linear Park on February 11 of the previous year. Two 16-year-olds, who were 15 at the time of the murder, were found guilty of her killing after a four-week trial in December. Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe, residents of Culcheth and Leigh respectively, were sentenced to life in prison, with Jenkinson to serve a minimum of 22 years and Ratcliffe a minimum of 20.

During the trial, it was revealed that both defendants had a disturbing fascination with violence and murder, planning Brianna’s killing for weeks. Jenkinson, in particular, was described as being obsessed with the victim, consuming dark web content related to torture and killings. The jury was shown evidence of a detailed murder plan and messages exchanged between the defendants discussing a “kill list” of other potential victims.

Justice Amanda Yip, presiding over the sentencing, noted that Jenkinson was driven by sadism and a desire to kill, while Ratcliffe’s actions were influenced in part by transphobia. The series will delve deeper into the motivations behind the crime, shedding light on the dark and disturbing minds of the perpetrators.

Dermot Murnaghan expressed his enthusiasm for being part of the upcoming season of Crimes That Shook Britain, highlighting the importance of giving a voice to the victims through their loved ones. The show aims to provide a platform for those affected by these tragic events to share their stories and seek justice for their lost loved ones.

The ninth season of Crimes That Shook Britain promises to deliver a compelling and sensitive portrayal of some of the most high-profile cases in recent history. In addition to Brianna Ghey’s murder, the series will explore the killing of 26-year-old beautician Elle Edwards, who was tragically murdered outside a pub on Christmas Eve 2022.

As the premiere date for the new season approaches, viewers can expect to gain a deeper understanding of the events that have shaped communities and left lasting scars on the nation. The show’s commitment to honesty and storytelling, coupled with exclusive access to investigating officers and family members of the victims, ensures a gripping and emotionally impactful viewing experience.
