Knowsley Council has announced plans to build a state-of-the-art football complex in Page Moss Jubilee Park, Huyton, Liverpool. The complex will feature a cutting-edge artificial grass pitch, new sporting facilities for children and young people, hardstanding viewing areas, floodlights, acoustic and non-acoustic fencing, ball stop netting, and a 51-bay car parking area with bollard lighting.
The proposal, which was approved at a planning committee meeting, includes a new 3G Artificial Grass Pitch and a development area for youth sports pitches and training areas. The project is part of the wider Jubilee Park improvement plan, separate from the pavilion enhancements.
Despite some objections regarding potential depletion of existing parks, impact on climate change policies, and public park status, the application received support from Liverpool County FA, local schools, and community members. The aim is to increase access to sports and leisure activities for children and young people, promoting improved physical and mental health outcomes.
Analysis of demand for the facility revealed that local clubs could field more teams with increased access to 3G provision. Huyton Juniors FC, one of the key clubs in the area, will manage the site under a long-term lease from Knowsley Council. The pitch will also be available for community hire when not in use by the club.
Representatives from Huyton Juniors FC expressed their excitement about the potential impact of the project on the club and the community. Council leader Graham Morgan highlighted the positive effects the football complex would have on the Page Moss area, emphasizing its contribution to public health initiatives. The project is seen as a significant opportunity for residents, especially in the highlighted area.
The new sports complex is expected to provide much-needed recreational opportunities for local residents, enhance community engagement, and support the development of young athletes in the region. With the backing of various stakeholders and a strong commitment to environmental management, the project aims to create a vibrant hub for sports and leisure activities in Merseyside.
