USA Baseball recently announced the final 20-man roster for the 2024 15U National Team after the conclusion of the 2024 15U National Team Training Camp. Held from August 4-9 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina, the camp showcased a high level of talent and competition.
15U National Team Manager Rob Shabansky expressed the difficulty in selecting the roster due to the impressive display of talent and versatility by the players. However, after careful consideration, the 20 selected players are believed to have what it takes to succeed on the international stage and represent the country admirably.
Six players on this year’s team have previous national team experience, with Andrew Jimenez being the only one who competed on the 2023 15U National Team. The roster also includes players who have participated in the 13U/14U Athlete Development Program (ADP) and various national team events such as the National Team Championships and the National Team Identification Series (NTIS) Champions Cup.
The players selected for the 2024 roster come from 10 different states and Puerto Rico, with California leading the way with six representatives. Other states with multiple players on the team include Georgia, Florida, Indiana, and Texas. The diverse group of players from different regions and programs within USA Baseball is seen as a strength by 15U Program Director Ben Kelley.
Leading the team for the second consecutive summer is nine-time USA Baseball coaching staff member Rob Shabansky. Casey Scott returns as the pitching coach, Derek Simmons as an assistant coach, and Steve Butler joins the staff as an assistant. The coaching staff is expected to provide expert guidance to the team as they prepare for their upcoming series with Australia.
Team USA will train in the greater Atlanta area from September 4-7 before facing off against Australia in a five-game series from September 8-12. The full schedule and game locations will be announced at a later date.
