A new effort to establish a new station at Bank Quay to improve transportation connections in Warrington has been announced. Warrington business leader, Paul Taylor, and Cheshire entrepreneur, Trevor Brocklebank, have been appointed to The Liverpool-Manchester Railway Partnership Board to ensure the region’s representation in the development of the new vision.

Paul Taylor, managing director of Warrington-based companies Taylor Estates (Cheshire) Limited and Cheshire Telecom Limited, and Trevor Brocklebank, co-founder of Home Instead Senior Care and Mezenet, will work alongside Warrington Borough Council Leader, Cllr Hans Mundry, to play a key role in advancing the plans for a new low-level station at Warrington Bank Quay.

The station is envisioned to become the primary hub station for the new line between Liverpool and Manchester, bringing significant transport, economic, and regeneration benefits to Warrington and Cheshire. Cllr Hans Mundry expressed his enthusiasm for Warrington’s involvement in regional rail plans and the potential for economic regeneration through the new rail line and interchange station at Warrington Bank Quay.

The Liverpool-Manchester Railway Partnership Board, led by former Rail Minister Huw Merriman, aims to support the development and implementation of a new railway connecting the two cities. With a focus on public-private partnership, the board will leverage private sector expertise to build a robust business case for the ambitious new line.

In addition, the Railway Board has released a report outlining the investment case for a new railway, highlighting potential benefits for regional and national growth. The report suggests that the right scheme could generate an additional £7 billion per year, create 40,000 new jobs by 2050, and support the construction of 300,000 new homes.

Preferred options include significant investments in city centre stations in Liverpool and a modern, underground station at Manchester Piccadilly. The strong representation of Cheshire and Warrington on the board, with leaders like Paul Taylor and Trevor Brocklebank, underscores the region’s crucial role in advancing these ambitious rail plans.
