The Black Gold has been crowned the Best Curry Restaurant in Warrington for 2024, just 18 months after opening its doors on Mersey Street. Owner Biju Joy has curated a menu filled with authentic and flavorful curries, showcasing the traditional dishes of Kerala in south India.
In celebration of National Curry Week, we had the opportunity to sample some of The Black Gold’s most popular dishes. Starting with chicken 65 and Black Gold prawn chili, we were impressed by the bold and delicious flavors. The chicken had a crispy, spicy coating, while the prawns were tossed in a flavorful batter with a mix of spices and sauces.
Moving on to the main courses, we tried the prawn mango curry and Kozhikodan lamb masala. Both dishes were expertly spiced and packed with rich flavors. The lamb masala, in particular, stood out as one of the best curries we’ve ever tasted, with a perfect balance of spices.
Complementing our mains were light and fluffy basmati rice and Kerala parathas, a popular street food dish made with layers of dough. The Black Gold’s commitment to authentic flavors and fresh ingredients was evident in every bite, transporting us to the vibrant culinary scene of Kerala.
The restaurant offers a wide range of dishes, from the popular beef ularthiyathu to vegetarian options like paneer matter masala. Their dosas, filled with various ingredients, and seafood dishes like prawn mango curry and fish moilee are also favorites among diners.
Whether you visit during National Curry Week or any other time of the year, The Black Gold promises a culinary journey through the flavors of Kerala. With skilled chefs and a commitment to quality, this award-winning restaurant is a must-visit for curry enthusiasts. We’re already looking forward to returning and exploring more of their enticing menu offerings.
